Anna and Johann
The woman on his right began to tug crying, “Let me go”. But he refused. She turned into a wild cat, bit his hand and ran off the busy street. “Anna,” the doctor screamed after her, then chasing his patient down the street. “Anna! Don’t do this.” She suddenly stopped in front of an abandoned hospital. The doctor froze, recognizing the hospital all too well. A place he thought he’d never see again. The paint from the walls was peeling; a few of the shutters were on the floor and there was a danger of debris falling from above… but it was still recognizable.
She stared at first, her blue eyes taking it all in but then to the doctor’s fright, she fell to the floor in a faint. Her long dark hair covering her face and her whole body was unmoving. “Anna!” Her doctor frantically ran to her side and reached out his hand to caress her hair.
But as soon as he touched her, a hand slapped his away. “Don’t touch her, you bastard.” The still form that had been Anna a few seconds ago sat up and the person glared at the doctor with unhidden contempt. “You don’t deserve to touch one lock of hair on my sister’s head.” The doctor froze. “I see… it’s been a while, Johann,” he muttered. “You have no right to tell me that… after all… it is your entire fault that your sister is sick.” That smile. Anna’s smile… No. This was not Anna. This was Johann. Anna’s smile never contained such malice in her eyes.
“Oh? Are you pushing the blame on me, good doctor?” He drawled, his eyebrow rose in amusement. His dark eyes playing peek-a-boo behind his… no… Anna’s long hair. “She needs me… she loves me…and I love her. You cannot break us apart. She will never… let me go.”
The doctor clenched his fists and grabbed Johann by the collar. “Johann, set her free! Stop pulling her back!” Johann just smiled and retorted, “It is she who doesn’t wish for me to leave. Why do you think she chose to come to this hospital? I love my sister. She is mine…” There was that malicious smile again. Johann touched the doctor’s chin with arrogance in his eyes. “You cannot have her…”
“I am going to kill you. Johann!” The doctor shook him violently. He hated him. He hated the man that possessed Anna. “You’re the reason… you drove her to almost commit suicide. Your sick love for her burdened her with so much guilt. She’s… your sister.”
Calmly, Johann shoved his hands away. “Not by blood… she is not my sister by blood… even still, she is mine.” He turned towards his sister’s doctor and slid a hand down his cheek, his gaze dark and malevolent. “You will not take her away from me…”
After saying that, Johann suddenly collapsed. The doctor caught him before reaching the ground. “Johann! Are you alright?”
“Doctor… please, let me go.” This time it was Anna’s voice. He was sure of it. “Let me go… Johann…” The man didn’t say anything and waited for Anna finally fall asleep from the exhaustion. When she finally does, he kissed her softly on the head and carried her back to the hospital.
A little while after that, the doctor was seen carrying the limp form of Anna in his arms at the nearest hospital. The staff pretended not to notice him pass but he wasn’t an idiot and knew exactly what they were talking about.
“Wow! What a good-looking doctor! Who is that he’s carrying?”
“Huh? That? Anna Kappel. The dear is suffering from multiple personalities. She is the step-daughter of the Head doctor of the old hospital near here.” There was a collection of gasps and whispers after hearing that. “It is a sad case too. She tried to kill herself.”
The doctor continued to ignore them, still walking towards Anna’s room. “Look at the doctor. He is carrying her so gently. He must really care for her. Are they lovers?”
The other nurses stared in shock. All their looks were saying she was crazy to think that. “Why shouldn’t he? You mean you don’t know? That is Dr. Johann Bauer. That is Ms. Anna’s older brother.”
